FAQ

Frequently asked questions regarding hypnotherapy, session structure, and evidence-based methodology.

What is hypnosis?

Hypnosis is a natural state of focused attention, reduced peripheral awareness, and heightened receptivity to constructive suggestion—very similar to becoming deeply absorbed in a good book or film.

Is hypnosis mind control?

No. Hypnosis is never mind control. Throughout hypnosis you remain in full possession of your free will, cannot be made to do anything against your values or wishes, and can open your eyes at any moment.

Does a hypnotherapist have magical powers?

No. Clinical hypnotherapy is an evidence-based psychological modality based on collaboration between therapist and client. Change comes from your own mental capacity and active engagement.

Will I lose consciousness or fall asleep during hypnosis?

No. Hypnosis is not sleep and you never lose consciousness. While your body relaxes deeply, your mind remains awake, alert, and focused—you hear and remember everything.

Can hypnosis erase unwanted memories?

No, hypnosis does not erase memories. Instead, it helps desensitise and reframe the emotional distress and triggers associated with past experiences.

Can everyone be hypnotised?

Yes. Almost anyone who is willing, cooperative, and able to focus their attention can experience hypnosis. It is a natural mental skill that deepens with practice.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy (CBH) and how does it work?

CBH (Hypno-CBT®) integrates Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Clinical Hypnosis, and Mindfulness. It restructures unhelpful thoughts and behaviours while using hypnotic relaxation and mental rehearsal to accelerate lasting change.

How does the therapy process work and how many sessions does it take?

We begin with a free 20-minute introductory call. CBH is brief and solution-focused; depending on your goals, most clients achieve meaningful, lasting progress within 4 to 8 sessions (our Exam Anxiety programme is 6 sessions).

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes. Clinical studies confirm that online CBH and CBT-I are just as effective as face-to-face sessions—with the added comfort of relaxing in your own safe home environment.

What if I find it difficult to relax?

Relaxation is a learnable skill, not a prerequisite. Through guided breathing, progressive muscle relaxation, and personalised MP3 audio recordings, your body learns to unwind naturally.
